    Industrial lead products

Whether you need lead sheet, a custom casting or a CNC-machined part, for radiation shielding or simply as ballast, your drawing is the specification. PLUMBARY makes exactly what it shows.

    The challenge

What makes lead parts hard to source

    • You have the drawing. You need someone to make it.

Geometry, alloy and unit weight are already set. What’s missing is a supplier who can produce the part in lead.

We make it to your drawing: cast, rolled or machined.

    • The first article is one thing. The twentieth batch is another.

Anyone can get a part right once. The real test is holding the same tolerances, delivery after delivery.

Every repeat batch is made to the dimensions of the approved sample.

    • Lead is heavy. Shipping it is part of the job.

Each consignment has to be packed, loaded and delivered to site without damage.

We also handle the protective packaging and export preparation.

    What PLUMBARY makes from lead

    Semi-finished lead products

Rolls of lead sheet stacked in a pyramid

On site or on the shop floor, material has to arrive in the right thickness and size. We roll, cast or cut it to your specification.

    • From 0.05 to 1 mm: thin foils containing tin and antimony for further processing, heavier gauges for X-ray shielding. Supplied on the roll or cut to size, in the width and length you order, for walls, doors and enclosures in new build and refurbishment.

    • Rolled sheet for covering surfaces, laid as supplied or shaped to fit. Milled lead, as the building trade calls it, is used for lead lining in X-ray rooms, in drywall construction and for sound insulation, and is delivered in rolls or as sheets to your dimensions.

    • Bonds to an existing surface where screws are not an option. Often called lead tape, this adhesive-backed sheet adds radiation shielding or soundproofing to doors, walls and equipment housings as a retrofit, and comes in the size you need.

    • Stacked to form shielding walls that can be reconfigured at any time, in the hot lab as well as in NDT bunkers for radiographic testing. In the interlocking versions the joints are staggered rather than running straight through; the bricks are also used to build entrance mazes and lead castles in radiopharmacy, research and industry.

    • Feedstock for further processing in your own workshop. Also traded as pig lead, it is cast in the ingot shape, unit weight and alloy that suit your melting pot or casting process.

    Casting and machining to drawing

Two conical antimonial lead castings with lifting eyes, hanging from chains

No two jobs are quite alike, and parts like these rarely come off the shelf. We cast each one to suit and, where required, machine it to final dimensions.

    • Cast to your drawing when the shape cannot be made from semi-finished stock. Typical castings are counterweights, shielding components and engineered parts in lead or lead alloy; where there is no drawing, a sample or specification will do.

    • For parts that would be too soft in pure lead. The trade calls this alloy hard lead, and the antimony content is yours to set.

    • Often chosen for fine detail. The tin content, shape and unit weight follow your specification.

    • Where a part must be harder than pure lead yet still show crisp contours. Lead is alloyed with both antimony and tin, in the proportions you choose.

    • Machined to finished size, ready to fit without further work. Turned, milled and drilled in lead or lead alloy to your drawing or CAD model, they are made as one-offs or in production runs and can start life as one of our castings.

    Ballast, shot and cores

Rows of machined lead cylinders with a central bore, standing on end

Often the lead ends up out of sight, adding weight or sitting at the heart of a component. Sometimes it has to mould itself around equipment that is being serviced. We make it in the shape, size and quantity the job calls for, and pack it for the journey to site.

    • Cylindrical stock, fitted as supplied or turned down further. Made to your diameter and length, solid or with a bore, it is used as a core, a counterweight or a shielding insert.

    • Fills bags, cavities and moulds or serves as ballast, and can be supplied in bulk. Also called lead balls, it is made in the shot size you specify, for boats, balance weights and industrial plant.

    • Drapes over pipework and vessels as shielding during maintenance, and closes gaps where no rigid lead part will fit. A lead pellet bag stays in place for as long as the work lasts and is lifted off afterwards; we make each one to your dimensions.

    • Cast for use on board and at sea. In ship and yacht building they serve as lead ballast and trim weights, with the shape and mass shown on your drawing.

    • Made to fit the isolation bearing they are inserted into. Also known as lead plugs, they sit at the centre of the lead rubber bearings that carry bridges and buildings in earthquake zones.
